The possibility of concluding agreements with private entities to provide healthcare to National Health Service users reflects the complementarity of the mixed model of the Portuguese Health System, as established in the Basic Law of Health.
Decree-Law n.ยบ 139/2013, 9th of October, established the legal regime of conventions that provides health benefits to NHS users, within the scope of the national healthcare network.
Regarding the social sector, agreements with Private Institutions of Social Solidarity are currently under Decree-Law no. 138/2013, of 9 October (Agreement model).
In addition, there are also agreements between the NHS institutions for the provision of healthcare in the areas provided according to the established framework.
